2019



Launching the 1st version of the mobile application (iOS)

To keep up with the new developments and technology, the library is pleased to announce the launching of the 1st version of the mobile application on ios where most of the library services are available for your convenience such as: books available for circulation, online resources, (Fada BZU Institutional Repository), and other services.

2018


Courses and workshops


  • Employee Abdul Majeed Qued from the Collection Development Department participated in a conference entitled: "Arab Libraries and the Challenges of the 21st Century: The Age of Transformations and Innovations", which was organized by the Algerian Libraries Association and the Center for Research and Human Resources Development (Ramah) which was held in Amman - Jordan from 24-26/12/2018.
  • At the invitation of the E-age conference organizers, the Library Director participated in their eighth conference, with a working paper entitled: "Libraries Need Good Connectivity", which was held in Amman - Jordan between 2-3/12/2018.



    Digital Repositories Management Workshop


  • Some members of the "Fada" team participated in an advanced workshop on: "Digital Repository Management and Research Outputs" which was held within the Romor project at Vienna Technical University for the period between 18-21 / 6/2018 . Birzeit University team consists of ten people : librarians, researchers and IT staff.



    Congratulations to the distinguished employee, Asad Tom




  • The library unit, management and employees extend their congratulations to colleague Asad Tom for winning the distinguished employee award For the year 2018-2017, which was announced by the university administration during the graduation ceremony on Saturday 23/6/2018.

    The library also presented an appreciation shield to the employee Asad on this occasion, on Monday 7/7/2018, wishing him continued progress and success and more tender to the library, the university and faculty members. The employee Asad Tom also participated in an employee exchange program at the same university for a period of 14 days.



    Meetings with college councils within the information awareness program






    The main library held meetings with the college councils during the month of March 2018 for the following colleges: -
    • Meeting on 3/26/2018 of the College of Arts Council from 3: 00-3: 30
    • Meeting on 27/3/2018 with the College of Pharmacy and Nursing from 11:30: 11:00
    • Meeting on 2/4/2018 for the College of Engineering Council from 3: 00-3: 30
    • Meeting on 5/4/2018 for the College of Science Council from 2: 00-2: 30

    In order to introduce the electronic library services, the meetings were characterized by the positive interaction of the participants and their interest in the library.



    Workshop on "Mendeley and Research Process"



  • The library held a workshop entitled "Mendeley and Research Process" presented by Claudia Dold, a qualified librarian from the University of Florida, the workshop attended by a number of professors and researchers and a number of library staff in addition to a number of students of the master's and doctorate.



    Open Day 2018




  • The library held its third open day, "Together We Read and Grow", on 2-3/4/2018, which included a book fair, a corner of the Palestinian heritage and a corner for the presentation of popular Palestinian food. It also included three workshops and a presentation of the stages of development of the library in a way that attracted the attention of passers-by.

    Bookfair 11-2017


    The Main Library held a bookfair for used books in the period from 07/11/2017 to 09/11/2017

    To keep up with the new developments and technology, the library is pleased to announce the launching of the 1st version of the mobile application where most of the library services are available for your convenience such as: books available for circulation, online resources, (Fada BZU Institutional Repository), and other services.
    At this stage, the application works on Android. Next, it will be available on IOS devices






    2016

    Birzeit University Library depository center of United Nations publications





    13-07-2016:
    Mr. Maher Naser Director of the Outreach Division of the United Nations and held a meeting with the staff of the Library and explained how they are choosing deposit centers and conditions for that.
    It is worth mentioning that the Birzeit University Library first library in Palestine adopt as a deposit for the United Nations publications



    Employee Asad Tom designed a book scanner




    13-05-2016:
    The emplyee Asad Tom at the library designed a book scanner to be used in digtizing some of the library collections from rare books or special collections materials.



    Bookfair 4-2016



    The Main Library held a bookfair for used books in the period from 06/06/2014 to 04/06/2014




    2015

    Workshop on Open Access titled
    “Open Access : How to Maximise The Impact, Efficiency and Availability of your Research”






    On 09-12-2015 the Library conducted a workshop on open access titled:
    “Open Access : How to Maximise The Impact, Efficiency and Availability of your Research”
    The Workshop was in cooperation with eifl and PALICO
    The lecturers were Mrs Iryna Kuchma the Open Access project manager at eifl and Mr. Brian Hole from Ubiquity Press and Mr. Stephen Urgola from American Universit in Cairo.
    There were 39 participants from Birzeit University, AL-Istiqlal University and AL-quds University, at the end of the workshop a few suggestions were introduced:
    1- It is important for each university to build its Repository.
    2- A suggeston for Ministry of Higher Educaion to supervise a general Repository for all Universities in Palestine.
    3- If Ministry of Higher Educaion will not take the step above, may PALICO can do the job.
    4- Each University Provide the cost necessary to build its own Repository



    Workshop on databases for Pharmacy Program 6-2015


    The Library held a workshop targeted for Pharmacy program, and attended by number of faculty members, students and some library employees.

    The workshop was presented on Monday 1-6-2015 by Mrs. Ghada from Technowledge company

    Book Fair on 5-2015



    The Library held a book fair in front of library building from 9-5-2015 to 11-5-2019, a number of faculty members and students have visited the book fair which was opened from 9Am to 3Pm.

    ðWorkshop Abput Springer Database



    A workshop was held on 11-5-2015 about Springer database presented by Mr. Asdaa Kotani from Springer company.

    A number of academics have participated in the workshop and also a number students and some library employees, the total number was 33 participants.

    eIFL manager visited Birzeit University


    eifl manager Ms. Rima Kupryte has visisted Birzeit University between May 4-5, 2015.
    During her visit she met with the VP of Academic Affairs and the VP Advancement. On the second day she met all PALICO members at Birzeit University - Main Library joining them in their 10th Anniversary celebration.
    Most of the discussions were about the electronic resource offored by eifl for free to all the members and how to achieve better results in accessing those resources. Few suggestions were made to help the members market their services to their communities.
