	Training Sessions Attended by Library Staff
	2019 Workshop entitled "Open scientific publishing and institutional research repositories" The Faculty of Science and staff of the “ROMOR” project held at Birzeit University, on Tuesday 19 March 2019, a workshop entitled: “Open scientific publishing and institutional research repositories.” The workshop is part of the project “Managing the outputs of scientific research through institutional repositories available in Palestinian higher education institutions ”, Or “ROMOR” project, which is funded by Erasmus +. Lectures and interventions on the subject were presented by Dr. Talal Shahwan, Dr. Henry Giacaman, and Dr. Adnan Yahya, and the Main Library Director Diana Sayej Nasser who provided an explanation on the current status of the university's digital repository "Fada" and future challenges. The web page administrator and technical assistant in the library's IT unit Asad Tom, gave a presentation on the benefits of using the open researcher and the shareholder ID (ORCID iD) and exchanging data between research information platforms. A group of faculty members and students participated in the workshop Restoration project for digitization in the Palestinian Museum On August 5, 2019, employees Asad Tom and Jamil Al-Sayed participated in a specialized workshop on: “Preserving Archives”, aimed at introducing institutions and individuals interested in the archive of the restoration project for digitization implemented by the Palestinian Museum, and to network with institutions working in the field of archiving with a view to exchanging Experiences, transfer of knowledge and raising awareness about the importance of preserving archive collections in Palestine. It also includes practical training on dealing directly with archival materials, and how to restore and preserve them, and then present them as digital documents available to the public. The exchange program at the University of Parma - Italy The Birzeit University delegation, consisting of eight people, returned after participating in the exchange program at the University of Parma - Italy during the period from 1-11/7/2019. Among them, from the library, was the Library Director Diana Sayej Nasser, and the employee Jamal Al Osta. Austria - Workshop Mrs. Suhaila Abu Ghdeib , head of Cataloging, Indexing and Special Collections Department participated in a training workshop entitled: Research Data Management , within the framework of the project: Research Output Management through Open Access Institutional Repositories in Palestinian Higher Education (ROMOR) within the "Erasmus +" program in Vienna / Austria during the period 5-15 September 2019 Unified Arab Index course worshop Ms. Nisreen Samara / Indexing and Classification Department participated in the Unified Arab Index course on bibliographic indexing according to the rules of WAM (RDA) and the Mark 21 standard in Amman / Jordan during the period September 21-23, 2019. 2018 The head of the Collection Development Department, Ms. Taghreed Shehadeh and Saadeh Saadeh from the same department participated in the Cairo International Book Fair for the year 2018 during the period 02/02/2018 until 28/28/2018 to purchase books in Arabic for the various departments of the university. 1200 titles were purchased, in addition to some donated titles Colleagues Jamil Al-Sayed, Omar Zaben, and Sawsan Sharkasi participated in the "Masari Station - Professional Track" trainers course during the four days 17-18 and 24-25 January 2018. The Library Director and Head of the Cataloging, Indexing and Special Collections Department, Mrs. Suhaila Abu Ghdeib, Mr. Jamal Al Osta, Mr. Asad Tom and Ms. Alaa Turk from the Information Technology Unit, and Mr. Mahmoud Murrar from the Information Awareness Program participated in the presence of Romor's workshop on "Digital Repositories" which was held at the headquarters of Al-Quds Open University For two days 15-16 January 2018. أول الصفحة 2015   In the period from 10 to 14 November, 2015 The Library director Mrs Diana Sayej participated in eIFL board meeting for electronic resources ,in addition to the annual meeting for eIFL coordinators as the coordinator for Palestine and headed one of the sessions titled ” Training of librarians and library users on the use of electronic resources”. On 2-11-2015, Taghreed Shihada the head of Collection Development Department has participated in the twenty sixth conference of Arab Union for Libraries and Information in Amman-Jordan. In the period from 9 to 10 September, 2015 Mr. Asad Tom participated in the Fourteenth Conference for Jordanian Librarians titled ”Information Industry: the Current and Future Challenges ” which was held in philadelphia University- Amman-Jordan. 2014 Library Director and co-head of Collection Development Miss Taghreed Shihadeh and Mr. Jamal Sohweil participated in the Cairo International Book of the Year in 2014 for the purchase of Arabic books to University departments in general and specifically for the doctoral program in the social sciences. On 06/02/2014 Mahmoud Murrar attended a webinar entitlrd "Text and data mining: what librarians need to know “ which was organized by the Union of eifl of electronic sources. On 23/01/2014 Mahmoud Murrar attended a webinar about "The third and final webinar in the eifl Model Licence Series" which was organized by the Union of eifl of electronic sources Top of page 2013 Iman Grace has participated in a course entitled "Modern Library Practices Management", funded by the Indian Foreign Ministry for a period of two months during the period 04.12.2013 until 28.01.2014 in Taramani- Chennai, Iman wrote a report in English entitled: "Total Quality Management In Birzeit University and Main Library" Mr. Jamal Ostah has participated in a session entitled "Islamic manuscripts” held in the manuscripts of Islamic Studies Institute Middle East and Asia, at the University of Cambridge on 23-27-2013 On 08/14/2013 Asad Tom and Abdel Moneim Shalabi attended a workshop entitled “ Electronic Databases” according to invitation from INN company and in coordination with members of the Palestinian Palico assembly, which was held in the building of the Ministry of Higher Education - Ramallah On 05/25/2013 few of library staff participated in a workshop in the higher studies building to follow up the final stage of a project between the museum and the library to choose a group that will be displayed in the library, as part of a project of holdings in public spaces. On 04/18/2013 Saadeh Saadeh, Sawsan Sharkasi , Asad Tom , Abdul Majeed Quod and Randa Abdullah participated in a workshop for the development of the proposed British project in the university library on how to choose and hire private collections in museums and the most appropriate way to display in the University Museum and Library. On 29/04/2013 Abdel Moneim Shalabi,Abdel Majid Quod, Sawsan Sharkasi and Mahmoud Murrar attended a lecture entitled "The Ethics of Scientific Research - a literature review" at the Institute of Said Khoury. On 16/03/2013 up to 23/03/2013 Library Director participated in the meeting of the Virtual library at the University of Gent - Belgium. On 13/02/2013 Mahmoud Murrar attended a webinar entitled "Strategic Planning: measurements, implementation and evaluation for electronic sources " Which was organized by the Union of eifl . On 02/20/2013 Suhaila Abu Ghdeb, Sami Naser attended a workshop on: "Palestinian Digital Archive Project in Birzeit University" On 23/01/2013 until 27/02/2013 Bahia Jaber, Abdul Majeed Quod and Samar Jarrar attended a course on the use of “Microsoft office " organized by the Human Resources Department by 10 hours of training. On 01/09/2013 Mahmoud Murrar attended Webinar on: "The Fast Strategic way for Variant expectations in the world of libraries and librarians" which was organized by the Federation of eifl of electronic sources. Top Of Page 2012 On 1/12/2012 Mr. Jamil Sayed participated in the conference, "the Palestinian libraries and their role in building the society in light of the information revolution," which was held in the hall of the theater of the municipality of Qalqilya, organized by the Palestinian Library Association. On 24/11/2012 Jamal Sohweil participated in the Latin School the Book Fair held in Ramallah to buy a set of books. On 14/11/2012 cataloging and classification department s staff attended a training online-Webinar-to identify the site: http://www.rdatoolkit.org/essentials 22:30 pm and one hour, and it was granted free subscription for the library on the site for one month. Jamal Osta and Randa Abdullah and Bahia Jaber attended a course in French language for beginners , for a total of 48 hours, during the period from 5/7/2012 to 19/7/2012 in the Franco-German Cultural Center Sami Nasser attended a course entitled:” Library of Congress Classification” organized by the Jordan Library Association in Amman - Jordan, in the period between 17-21/06/2012 The head of Collection Development Shehadeh and Bahia Jaber attended the International Book Fair, which was held in Amman in the period between 5/9/2012- 10/9/2012 to buy books in Arabic for a total of 943 titles. Mrs. Nasreen Samara attended the session entitled: "The preservation and maintenance of electronic documents and manuscripts," which was held at the Heritage Foundation and the revival of the Islamic Research - Jerusalem in the period between 2-11/9/2012 . 25-9-2012: Within the activities of the Fifth Conference of the members of the Arab Union Catalog the Head of the department of cataloging and classification and Special collections Mrs. Suhaila Abu Gdeb attended a course in the University of Jordan, entitled: "technical measures for the index and practices inhalers". the employee Samar Jarrar responsible of indexing department attended the session entitled: "indexing resources continued, and electronic resources ". the course was held in the period 23-24/9/2012 Labib Eid, Mahmoud Murrar and Asad Tom attended a Webinar Session titled "Participatory Design" organized by eIFL and presented by Nancy Fried Foster and Sania Battalova on 26/04/201 On Wednesday, April 4, 2012 : Subsequent to the adoption of Birzeit University Library to be a member in the Arabic Union Catalog , its sponsering organization held a training course for the Library staff especially from the fields of cataloging, classification and indexing for two hours across Skype to introduce the webiste of Arabic Union Catalog and its services, The session was conducted by Mr. Mohamed Abdel Hamid Zaki from Egypt and attended by eight of the Library staff. Mr. Mahmoud Murrar attended a workshop on "Databases and Library Management Systems " in the period from 22/2/2012 to 23/02/2012 in Amman-Jordan. Mr. Jamal Sohweil has participated in a book show and workshop titled "encouraging to use library" in Arab American University-Jenin on 5-12-2011. Top Of Page 2011 Mr. Jamal Sohweil has participated in "Ramallah and Cultural Development" conference ("wein a' Ramallah") in the period 26-27/7/2011 which was held in Ramallah cultural Palace. Mrs. Sohaila Abu Ghdeb has attended a workshop about "Palestinian Social Electronic Archive" on 25/7/2011 in Al-ankarz Hotel-Ramallah Mr. Asad Tom attended a course titled "Electronic References and its' benefits" which was held by Jordan Library and Information Association in Amman-Jordan from 29/5/2011 to 2/6/2011 for a total of 15 hours. Top of page 2010 The Head of Collection Department Taghreed Shihada and Sa'adeh Sa'adeh have participated in the Jordanian International Bookfair which was held in Amman-Jordan between 22-25/9/2010 to purchase Arabic books. Asad Tom, Omar Zaben,Abdallah Suleiman, Suhaila Abu Ghdeib, Sami Nasir, Nisreen Samara, Sawsan Sharkasi, Taghreed Dalou have participated in a course titled "Records Management and Electronic Archiving" which was conducted in the period 21-29/6/2010 by the Main Library in cooperation with Palestinian National Archive. Suhaila Abu Ghdeib and Jamal Austa from Cataloging Dept. attended the First Conferece of the Palestinan Archive , held in Ramallah , 16th of March 2010 Head of Cataloging Dept. Mrs. Suhaila Abu Ghdeib attended a workshop on "The status of cultural institutions survey 2010" , held at the Palestinian Bureau of Statistics, Ramallah , 3rd of March 2010 Top of page 2009 Noor Khadir, Randa Abdallah, Eman Jiryes, Jamal Al-Austah, Abd al Munem Shalabi and Sa'adeh Sa'adeh had participated in "Bilad Alsham Symposium" which was held in AL-Najah University on Thursday, 3-12-2009. Sulaiman Musallam has joined a course on "Library Science & Information" which was held by The Jordan Library & Information Association in the period from 14/06/2009-21/07/2009 in Amman-Jordan. Abdallah Suleiman, Omar Zaben, Nisreen Samara, Sawsan sharkasi had participated in a course about Excel in the period from 16/02/2009 to 30/03/2009. Library Director has participated in the first eIFL board meeting in London from 30/01/2009 to 03/02/2009 Taghreed Shihadeh has participated in a course held by continuous learning - Birzeit University -Ramallah on "Proposal Writing" in the period from 03/02/2009 to 13/03/2009 for a total of 24 training hours. Top of page 2008 Sa'adeh Sa'adeh and Jamal AL-Austah have participated in acourse titled "Learning the Basics of German Language" which was held in the period from 20/10/2008 to 22/12/2008 in the University campus - Science Department Bahia Jaber has participated in a course titles "Certificate Course on Modern Library Practices" which was held by "National Institute of Technical Teachers Training and Research" during the period 20/10/2008-12/12/2008 in Chennai-India Library Director has participated in the annual General Assembly of eIFL being the coordinator of Palestine. The meeting took place in Sofia- Bulgaria between 4-9/11/2008. Library Director, and Labib Eid, and Asad Tom have joined their colleagues from Tromso University, and Telemark College in an administrative meeting to start a cooperative program on: "Establishing an Institutional Repository in Birzeit University". The meeting took place between 28-31/10/2008 in Tromso University Library- Norway. Mahmoud Murrar has particpated in a training course on "Libraries and Information" which was held in Mortenson center, State University of Illinois-United states in the period between 2/9/2008-31/10/2008. Ghazi Obeid has participated in the Twelfth Symposium of Bilad Alsham Union of Libraries in the period 23/24/8/2008 which was held by The Jordan Library & Information Association in cooperation with Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA) in Aqaba- Jordan Randa Abdallah has joined a course on "Library Science & Information" which was held by The Jordan Library & Information Association in the period from 1/7/2008-14/8/2008 for a total of 150 credit hours. Amman-Jordan. Taghreed Shihadeh has participated in a course held by The Jordan Library & Information Association on "Digital Libraries" in the period from 10-14/8/2008 for a total of 20 credit hours. Amman-Jordan. Library Director, Asad Tom, Mahmoud Murrar and Kamal Hamdan from computer center have attended an advanced course in Minisis and its applications between 16-29/06/2008 which was held at minisis inc company in Tunisia. Head of Cataloging Mrs. Suhaila Abu Ghdeib has participated in a training in USA organized by American Overseas Research Centers(CAORC) in Chicago, from 15-24 of April 2008, the training was about the electronic resources and databases related to Classification and Cataloging. Library Director, Head of Users' Services Department, Head of Collection Development have joined an Academic Librarians Workshop entitled: "Reading and Technology in the Service of Everyone" which was held in Bethlehem University on April the 10th 2008. Library Director has given a presentation on: "Promoting, Managing, and Marketing E-resources in Higher Education Institutions" 25 staff from the library have attended few sessions in the International conference on Libraries entitled "Libraries from Human Rights Perspective" which was held between 31/3-2/4/2008 Mahmoud Murrar attended a 15 hours course titled "Introduction to Web Publishing " which was held in the university campus between 27/02/2008 to 12/03/2008. Library Director and Suhaila AbuGdeib have attended a 40 hours Excel 2003 course (Introductory and Advanced) which was held at the Continuing Education Center- Birzeit University between 6-12-2007 and 13-3-2008 Saadeh Saadeh has attended a 20 hours training course on Excel 2003 which was held at the Continuing Education Center- Birzeit University between 6-12-2007 and 26-1-2008 Head of Collection Department Dept. Taghreed Shihadeh and Mr. Jamal Sohweil have participated in the Cairo International Bookfair which was held in Cairo-Egypt between 25-31/1/2008 to purchase books in Arabic. Top of page 2007 Library Director has organised a presentation to the Committee of Academic Librarians in the West Bank on the relationship between eifl and the Palestinian consortium PALICO in regard to e-resources and the future of PALICO being eIFL coordinator to Palestine. This was on Wednesday the 12th of December 2007. The participants have also discussed the major activities that few libraries will organise in 2008. The Library has organized its annual bookfair to sell all old, weeded and duplicate books. This was for three days from Monday-Wednesday 10-12/12/2007. Top of page 2006 Mahmoud Murrar and Abd al Munem Shalabi have participated in a one day workshop on "usefull free websites" for assisting library patrons to obtain usefull information from the web. This workshop was conducted in Ramallah and directed by the expert "Stephen Perry" . This was held on Monday 18/12/2006. The Library Director has joined the General Assembly meeting of eIFL coordinators which was held in Amman-Jordan between the 10th and 12th of September 2006. The Head of Collection Department and Library Director have participated in the Jordanian International Bookfair which was held in Amman-Jordan between 6-10/9/2006 to purchase Arabic books and all back issues of some of the Arabic journals. Miss Najla Sharabati and the Library Director have participated in the IFLA annual conference which was held in Seoul-Korea between 18-26/9/2006. The Library Director and all library department heads have joined a 24 hours course on " Stress Management" which was held at The Continuing Education Centre-Ramallah. The course was conducted by Miss Laila Atshan between Friday 5 May and Saturday 13 May - 2006. Library Director has joined the regional meeting of eIFL coordinators which was held in Aleppo-Syria between 10-12/4/2006. Suhaila Abu Gdeib , Hanadi Abu Taha , Samar Jarrar , Randa Abdalla and Jameel Sayed have attended a 5 days course on " Indexing and the use of Thesauri" which was held at Law Institute by Miss Yusra Abu Ajamieh from Saturday 18/3/2006 to Thursday 23/3/2006 with a total of 20 training hours. Suhaila AbuGdeib, Najla Sharabati and Jamal Suhweil have participated in a one day workshop on : " Authority Files ". The workshop was organized by the Palestinian Library Association in cooperation with the British Council in Ramallah on Wednesday 15/2/2006. Sami Naser, Asad Tom and Osama Baba have joined a five days course at Al-Quds University on " Reference and Information Services " between 11-15/2/2006. Nisreen Samara and Omar Zaben attended a two days course on " Circulation Systems in Libraries " organized by Al-Quds University between 7-8/2/2006. Library Director, Tagreed Shihadeh/ Head of Collection Development Department and Jamal Suhweil from Arabic Cataloging have participated in the Cairo International Book Fair to buy Arabic books. This was between the 19th and 27th of January 2006. The Library Director, Taghreed Shihadeh and Jamal Suhweil have joined a two days course organized by the Arab Administrative Development Organization (ARADO) between 20-21/1/2006 on " The Strategic Planning for Information Technology in Libraries ". Top of page 2005 Najla Sharabati and Suhaila Abu Ghdeib have participated in the 3rd IFLA Regional meeting of Experts on an International Cataloging Code which was held in Cairo 12-14/12/2005. Randa Abdalla and Sawsan Sharkasi have joinded the training session on "Descriptive Cataloging" which was held at AL-Quds University between 19-22/10/2005 and 19-21/11/2005. The Library Diector has participated in the general Assembly for e IFL coordinators which was held in Vilnius/Lithuania between 26-30/10/2005. Sa'adeh Sa'adeh and Jameel Alsayed have joined the training session on "collection Development" which was held at Al-Quds University between 15-19/10/2005. The Library Director has participated in the 71st IFLA General Conference on " Libraries : A Voyage of Discovery" which was held in Oslo-Norway between the 14th and 18th of August 2005. Mrs. Diana Sayej Naser, Mr. Labib Eid and Mr. Mahmoud Murrar participated in a two days intensive workshop on: "Library Consortion and Electronic Resources." which was held at Best Eastern Hotel in Ramallah on 13+14/7/2005. The workshop was organized by eIFL Group in cooperation with the British Council. Suhaila Abu Ghdeib and Tagreed Shihadeh participated in training session on " communication skills" organized by Human Resources dept. at the Continuing Education Center in Ramallah, ( 6-16 of June 2005, with 20 training hours). Mrs Diana Sayej-Naser/ The Library Director has participated in the Regional Kick-off meeting of EIFL (The International Consortia of Electronic Information) which was held in Cairo between 16-20/4/2005. Mrs. Sayej was nominated to be the coordinator for West Bank – Palestine on that consortium. The administrative assistant miss Tagreed Dalou has participated in a 30 hours course on “Electronic Management and Archiving” which was held in Ramallah during March/April 2005 and organized by the Human Resources Department at BZU. Top of page 2004 Miss Najla Sharbati and the Library Director Mrs. Sayej Naser have participated in the 70th IFLA conference which was held in Buenos Aires-Argentina between the 21st and the 29th of August 2004. Mr. Mahmoud Murrar, Mr. Kamal Hamdan, and the library Director have joined an M2L meeting which was held in Amman by the Minisis Inc team from 13-18/7/2004. They have also attended an advanced course on " Indexing and the use of the Thesaures" from 19-21-7/2004. The course was held at Shoman Foundation - Amman. The Library Director has participated in the International Seminar on " Vision and Innovation : the key to Developing Tomorrow's Library and Information Services."The seminar was held in London and Bretby/Great Britain between 13-20/3/2004. Acourse on using M2L application was held in Amman at Shoman's Foundation from 23-29/2/2004. There were twelve participants from Main Library and Branch Libraries. Main Library attendees were : Sami Nasir,  Ghazi Obeid,  Samar Jarar,  Nahida Nasir,  Eman Jiries,  Suheila Abu Ghdeib and the Library Director Mrs. Diana Sayej Naser. Mr Jamal Suhweil attended the Cairo International Bookfair and purchased Books in Arabic.This was between 22-29/1/2004. Top of page 2003 Mr. Labib Eid/Head of Users Services Department and Mr. Asad Tom/Computer Engineer participated in the workshop on "The Virtual Library" which was held in Arles/France from 17/11/2003 to 20/11/2003. Abdul Majid Quod,  Sulaiman Musallam,  Sa'adeh,  Rana ,  Haifa Ramaha attended a course on " Microsoft Windows " which was held by the Continuing Education Department from June to July 2003 with a total of 36 hours Abd Al Munem Shalabi , Tagreed Al-Dalou , Hanadi Ab Taha attended a course on " Microsoft Excell" was held by the Continuing Education Department from May to June 2003 with a total of 18 hours . Mrs. Suhaila Abu Ghdeib / Acting Head of Cataloging, Classification and Indexing has attended a course on "Proposal Writing". The course was organized by the Continuing Education Department / Ramallah, and was held in 11 sessions , 3 hours each (33 hours) , starting on the 14th of April until the 29th of May. She has attended another workshop about Microsfoft Project program, and it was also held at the Continuing Education Department / Ramallah on Sundays (25th of May and 1st of June). Library Programmer, Mr. Mahmoud Murrar and Acting Head of Collection Development, Miss Taghreed Shihadeh participated in a Minisis course given by Minisis,Inc. experts in Amman, Jordan at the University of Philadelphia. The course was held between 29/04 -06/05/2003. Top of page 2002 Miss Taghreed Shihadeh, Miss Nahida Nasir, and the Library Director participated in the AFLI Conference which was held in Beirut - Lebanon between 29/10/2002 and 1/11/2002 under the title: "Managing Libraries in the Digital World." Library Director Mrs. Diana Sayej-Naser has participated in the 68th Conference of IFLA which was held in Glasgow - Great Britain between 18-24/08/2002 under the title: "Libraries for life: Democracy, diversity, delivery." Library Programmer Mr. Mahmoud Murrar has participated in a Minisis course given by Minisis,Inc. experts in Amman, Jordan at Abdul-Hameed Shoman Foundation. The course was held between 09/09 -18/09/2002. Mrs. Suhaila Abu Ghdeib / Acting Head of Cataloging, Classification and Indexing, and Iman Jiries from Collection Development Dept. have participated in the Symposium held in Damascus - Syria between 27/6-6/7/2002 under the title: "Documentation and Archiving in the Arab World". Top of page 2001 Mr. Labib Eid / The Head of Information Services has attended a course on "Proposal Writing" between 19/11-22/11/2001. The course was organized by the Ministry of Higher Education & The British Council and was held at the latter in Ramallah. The Library Director, Taghreed Shehadeh, and Nahida Naser have participated in the AFLI Conference which was held in Sharjah - UAE between the 5th-8th of November 2001 under the title : "Libraries in the Arab World in the 3rd Millinium". Eman Jiries from the Collection Development Dept. participated in "The 12th Conference on Information Technology" which was held in Baghdad, Iraq between 13-21 April 2001. Taghreed Dalou and Asad Tom have attended a 50 hours course on "Web Design and Development Program" which was held by the Computer Center at Birzeit University during February and March 2001. Sima Qamhiya has participated in a five day course on "Project Management" which was organized by PASSIA between the 28th of February and the 4th of March 2001. Top of page 2000 A presentation on : "The Provision of Information Support to Distance Learners." was held at Al-Bireh Municipality by the British Council on Wednesday the 12th of July 2000 from 9:30-12:00. Six from the Library participated; they are : Maureen, Suhaila, Gazi, Asad, Aida, and Diana. Mr. Labib Eid / Head of Information services has attended a course on : "Marketing Information Services," which was held in the British Council - Ramallah from the 21st until the 24th of June 2000. Top of page 1999 Rania Barakat, Jamal Suhweil, Sami Naser and Abdel Munim Shalabi have participated in a workshop on the "Electronic library" which was held in Ramallah on 15/12/1999. Library Programmer and Library Director participated in the International Conference of Minisis users "Mum 99" which was held in Cairo from 28/11-1/12/1999. Library Director attended a 4 days course on Library Management which was held in cooperation with the British Council and the Ministry of Higher Education at the British Council in Ramallah from 16-19 November 1999. Asad Tom from the Reference Department attended a one day workshop held by Swets at Abu Deis College on Wednesday 10th of November 1999. Miss Najla Sharabati, Miss Taghreed Shehadeh and the Library Director have participated in the Annual Conference of the Arab Federation of Library Associations which was held in Tunisia between 6-13/10/1999 under the title : "The Electronic Library and Information Technology in Libraries in the Arab Countries and the 21st Century". Head of Reference Department, Mr. Labib Eid, and the programmer, Mr. Mahmoud Murrar, have participated in the course held at Birzeit by Springer-Verlag in coordination with the Ministry of Higher Education, on using the Web to get fulltext data. The course was held on 26 and 27th of August, 1999. The Head of Collection Development Mrs. Hadad and the Library Director attended a one day workshop on "Open Learning and library services " which was held in the Polytechnic Institute - Hebron in coordination with the British Council on Tuesday the 27th of July, 1999. The Library Director, attended a one day workshop at al-Quds University on Monday the 12th of July 1999 on using the Chemical Abstracts through OCLC Electronic Services. Suhaila Abu Ghdeib & Iman Abdallah have participated in the Symposium on School Libraries which was held in the Ministry of Education in Ramallah on the 15th & 16th of March 1999. Mahmoud Murrar / The programmer in the library has participated in a two days workshop on the union catalog which took place in Birzeit University on the 22nd & 23rd of February 1999. Top of page 1998 The Library Director Mrs. Diana Sayej-Naser has participated in the followings: A 3 weeks International Program on "Information Highway" in the United States through USIS in Jerusalem from 3-27/8/1998. An International Conference on "Disaster and After" in Bristol-Britain from 4-7/9/1998 & submitted a paper on Information Services During The Intifada. A Visit Program to university libraries in Britain from 8-10/9/1998 and the British Library Association. Library director and Head of Information Services , Mr. Labib Eid attended a course on library management which was held in the Ministry of Higher Education between the 18-20/6/1998. Library director, Mrs. Diana Sayej-Nasir has participated in the workshop entitled " INAUGURATION OF THE ARAB UNIVERSITIES LIBRARY AND INFORMATION NETWORK " (Arab Link) which took place in Amman - Jordan on Wednesday May 13,1998. The workshop was held in coordination between the World University Consortium (WUC) and the Association of Arab Universities (AARU). Musa Nasir , Taghreed Shehadeh and Nahida Nasir attended the " 5th symposium on libraries in larger Syria " which was held in Damascus-Syria between 16-22/5/1998. A course was held in the library entitled : "Indexing and using the Thesaurus" , Eleven staff members participated in the course which took place in the library conference room between the 4th and the 9th of May 1998 , after which the participants were honored official certificates.
