This photo-essay depicts life in Afghanistan around 1995, just when the Taliban were taking hold of a large portion of the war torn country. Steele-Perkins' captivating photographs portray an accurate representation of the ordinary life of the Afghan people, living within a landscape of devastation and gloom.
This work also includes two essays, one written by Andre Velter and the other by Steele-Perkins. Several poems and works by the late Afghan poet, Sayd Bahodine Majrouh, accompany the photographs.
