This is an excellent work analyzing if there is enough fresh water available for a population that will double in size within the very near future. Mr. Allan explores the particular issues of conflict in the region, but argues that the solution to the water question can not be solved at the local level alone. The author has publicly declared that some Middle Eastern countries have basically already run out of water: “Israel and Palestine … ran out of water in the 1950s, Jordan in the 1960s, Egypt in the 1970s”. He contends, therefore, that the resolution to these problems must come from global intervention and allocation.

“This study focuses on developments of the exile motive in the Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish’s writings 1960-1995. The sources consist primarily of Darwish’s diwans of poetry and articles published in literary magazines.
The study shows a gradual development of … strategies in Darwish’s works. In the 1960s, a pattern of separation, representing the exclusion of the physical and symbolic exile, is predominant. In the 1970s, liminal patterns and a quest for reintegration become the dominant models. Until 1982, the rite of passage is nearly always aborted.
